GOING BACK | revisiting + reflecting on an old place

I attended Ohio University from Fall 2014 until Spring 2015. After that I took a break. I make it a habit to go and visit every once in a while.

Being there again was almost like being in a dream -- it was familiar, yet different enough. There was this eerie ghost town vibe, since most of the students left a month ago for the summer. A lot changed physically since I was there. Construction on one building ended. Construction on another started.

After that first night, I slipped out of bed, careful not to wake my sleeping friend next to me and tiptoed out of the room. The night was warm, so I sat on the balcony in the light of the moon and the pool below and just listened to the cars on the highway. It was the most peaceful I'd felt in Athens since that first semester I'd spent there in 2014.

Things seemed so much brighter now that I was seeing them through a different lens. The last time I had loved there had been one of the darkest times in my life. Maybe that's why.

One of the highlights of my trip was sitting in the car at the Little Caesar's drive-through. We must have been there for a half hour but in a place like that, time seems to stand still. We laughed, we listened to music, we talked. We watched the sun set behind the hills.
