A FEW SKINCARE STARTERS

Skincare can be tricky to figure out, especially as a beginner. There are so many different factors-- skin type, whether you have sensitive skin or not, allergies. Nobody wants to spend a hundred dollars on expensive serums and oils just to find out that they don't work for your skin. Here are a few of my favorite products that allowed me to build a good starting point in a skincare regimen.

Sephora Mud Mask Purifying and Mattifying (Sephora, $20)

As someone with big and easily clogged pores, a skin detox once or twice a week feels less like a treat and more like a necessity. When I realized that exfoliating scrubs and homemade oatmeal masks just weren't cutting it, I decided to try something a little more powerful. In the thirty or so minutes I keep the mask on twice a week, I can really feel it working, tingling as soon as I put it on and when I took it off, I could see and feel a difference in the texture of my skin.

Elizabeth Arden Refining Toner Lotion (Marshalls, $5.99)

Back to a time when I didn't know any better, I used to use alcohol as a toner after washing my face-- ouch. While this toner does contain alcohol, it doesn't irritate my skin after washing or exfoliating and it's just enough to remove any makeup that I might have missed, leaving my skin feeling fresh and cool.

Tea Tree Oil (GNC, $11.95)

I'm used to grabbing a moisturizer with salicylic acid off the shelves but a while ago, I tried using a more natural alternative to combating breakouts. I mix the oil with the appropriate parts of water in a bottle and use cotton pads to apply it to my skin every other day. I've noticed a reduction in the amounts and the severity of the random breakouts I get.
